About Fairfield University

Fairfield University is a private, coeducational undergraduate and master’s level university in Fairfield, which is a town located in Fairfield County, in the US state of Connecticut, with a population estimated at a number of nearly 57 400 inhabitants, during the 2000 census. According to Money Magazine, Fairfield is the 9th ‘’best place to live’’ in USA, including the best place to live in the Northeast.

Fairfield University was founded in 1942, by the Society of Jesus, chartered by the State of Connecticut to grant degrees, in 1945, being today one of the 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, with the primarily goal to develop the creative intellectual potential of individuals, fostering its students with ethical and religious values, and sense of social responsibility.

There are approximately 3 900 undergraduate and 1000 graduate students who study in Fairfield’s 6 colleges and schools, which include: The Charles F. Dolan School of Business, The Fairfield College of Arts and Sciences, The Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions and The School of Engineering.

The athletic teams from Fairfield University are known as the Fairfield Stags, who compete in NCAA’s National Collegiate Athletic Association, in various sports, the university being also a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Fairfield has 20 varsity sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer and several other sports.

According to the Academic Progress Rate (APR), fro the NCAA, the Stags are among the most academically successful in the nation, most of the athletes, from Fairfield University, being honored with Public Recognition Awards, in the past years.
